Après la fin du dernier épisode de AEW Dynamite avec les début de KENTA, l'aspirant n°1 à l'IWGP US Championship de Jon Moxley, les questions se multiplient sur la nature du partenariat entre AEW et NJPW.
Selon Dave Meltzer, étant donné la situation sanitaire, c'est le fait que Jon Moxley soit IWGP US Champion. Selon lui, la NJPW n'a pas voulu retirer le titre une deuxième fois à Moxley et la solution qui se présentait pour avoir Moxley était ce partenariat parce que pour avoir Moxley, il fallait l'accord de Tony Khan.
“But then they needed Jon Moxley because he had the US Title. They could have stripped him, they could have if they wanted to, but they didn’t want to. The only way to get him, because he couldn’t go to Japan, was to do it here, but the only way for him to do it here, it had be approved by Tony Khan, so it opened the door.
Donc, selon Meltzer, l'apparition de KENTA à Dynamite est liée à la pandémie parce que les règles sanitaires ne permettent pas de circuler librement entre le Japon et les USA pour faire une apparition à la NJPW entre deux shows de AEW. Il y'a bien NJPW Strong ou KENTA apparaît, c'est la raison pour laquelle il a pu participer à Dynamite, mais la NJPW espère certainement que son titre soit défendu dans des shows importants.
And Harold (Meij) is gone. I wrote when Harold was gone that that opens the door. And it did open the door. It was new people, and as far as what happens from here, we’ll see. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, I think it probably wouldn’t have happened because Moxley would have been able to go to Japan in between AEW dates and defend the championship there. That deal was already in place. With the pandemic, because it had to be in the United States, that changed everything, and the flip side is that by doing that, the sides are working together.
En définitive, un partenariat existe bel-et-bien mais la situation fait qu'il est inenvisageable de voir des interactions entre les plus grosses stars de la NJPW et de AEW pour l'instant.
